Infosys Foundation funds infectious diseases research at IISc

The Institute is delighted to announce that the Infosys Foundation has decided to support the infrastructure and broaden research activities of the Centre for Infectious Diseases Control, through Corporate Social Responsibility.

Infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, HIV, SARS and Ebola continue to dominate news headlines. The recent outbreak of the Zika virus that causes microcephaly or abnormally small brains in babies has raised the alarm worldwide. The threat by infectious pathogens is real! Given these challenges, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) decided to reinvigorate the Centre for Infectious Disease Research (CIDR) in 2013 to focus research in this area with translational goals ( The Centre houses a large Biosafety Level-3 (BSL-3) facility and spacious laboratories.

The funding from the Infosys Foundation will help IISc in the creation of a major centre on infectious diseases research with translational goals. The unique features of this initiative at CIDR will be the
interdisciplinary nature of research involving biologists, chemists, engineers and industry. In addition, the funding will help organize meetings and workshops to train personnel, thereby increasing awareness in
the area of infectious diseases.

The Institute thanks the Infosys Foundation and SudhaMurty for their generous support towards this programme.
