CENTRE FOR INFECTIOUS DISEASE RESEARCH
The Center for Infectious Disease Research (CIDR) at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, is a premier multidisciplinary facility dedicated to advancing the understanding, prevention, and control of infectious diseases. We provide the intellectual framework and cutting-edge infrastructure necessary to tackle critical challenges in infectious disease biology, host-pathogen interactions, vaccine development, therapeutics, and global public health preparedness. By integrating fields such as microbiology, immunology, genomics, and bioengineering, our vibrant research ecosystem drives vital discoveries in both fundamental and applied science.
To support this mission, CIDR houses world-class, government-certified Biosafety Level-3 (BSL-3) and Animal Biosafety Level-3 (ABSL-3) containment laboratories. Designed to stringent international CDC and WHO standards, these advanced facilities feature rigorous engineering controls to enable safe, innovative research on high-risk and airborne pathogens, including Tuberculosis, HIV, and emerging viruses. Equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation and specialized animal research spaces, CIDR empowers investigators to safely conduct impactful studies on pathogen biology, immune responses, disease transmission, and drug discovery.
